Academic Experience

Throughout my academic career, I have always sought to situate myself in a multi-disciplinary environment, and specifically to work in departments and programs that possess a strong public policy focus. I have held senior administrative positions in all three universities where I have worked and have played an active leadership role in curriculum development and the introduction of new academic programs.

I am currently a Professor of Government and International Affairs in the School of Public International Affairs at Virginia Tech.  I served for two years as Director (interim) of the School of Public and International Affairs. I have also served the Chair of the Government and International Affairs program, and was instrumental in setting up the Washington Semester in Global Engagement.

Prior to working at Virginia Tech, I was a founding member of the Department of Government and Politics at Ben Gurion University of the Negev, Israel where I was also the founding Director of the Centre for the Study of European Politics and Society (CSEPS).  In Israel, I also help found the Israel-Europe Policy Network (IEPN).  My first academic position was in the Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of Reading, UK, where I was appointed as Director of International Studies in the Graduate School of European and International Studies

I have served as a member on the Board of Directors, Association for Israel Studies (2015-19) and have also been a member of National Executive on the Israel Association for the Study of International Relations (IAIS and the  National Executive Israel Association for the Study of European Integration (IASEI).  I am also Co-editor Book Series Europe and the World, Lexington Books.
